This is an old revision of the document!

Industrial internship

In your studies you may includes an intership.

  1. You must provide a Prof. of the department willing to act as a supervisor. When looking for this Prof. please go by the topic/field of the company ideally matching the research field of the Prof.
  2. It must be done in a German company. In case of large companies and upon request to the examination board it may also be done at a European branch. Please note that anyway point [1] must be fulfilled.
  3. Duration is defined as “at least 10 weeks”. This means it can be longer, of course, but not shorter, of course.

How to register/get the credit points:

  • No registration prior to the internship required.
  • You find a supervising Professor of our department.
  • You do the internship.
  • Afterwards, you make an appointment with your supervisor for an oral presentation.
  • The supervisor confirms the internship in your workbook.
  • You present the workbook to ZPA and get the CP.

The intership may be exchanged by:

  1. An intership in a research center rather than in industry, e. g. in FZ Jülich or a Max-Planck institute or a Fraunhofer institute. Please not you need a supervisor (see above) and an application to the examination board to be permitted to do this.
  2. A so-called “second” mini-thesis. The name “second” does not imply that you need to have accomplished your regular “first” mini thesis first. This thesis has to be experimental since it replaces a practical internship! To make it absolutely clear: A pure simulation work or a literature survey are not complying to this rule. You still need to find a Prof. and apply to the examination board.
